JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BRPROUD) — The parent company of Winn-Dixie, Southeastern Grocers Inc., is lending a helping hand to food banks in the nation by donating 820,000 meals during Hunger Action Month.

The company said seven Feeding America network food banks will be receiving donations, including two in Louisiana. Second Harvest of South Louisiana and Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center in New Orleans will be partnering with Southeastern Grocers.

Other cities in the south that will be receiving donations include Jacksonville, Miami Gardens, Orlando, Panama City, and Birmingham.

“Through our powerful partnership with Feeding America and its network of local food banks, we can touch the lives of thousands of families, children and individuals facing food insecurity as we take action in the fight against hunger this Hunger Action Month and beyond,” said Chief People Officer of Southeastern Grocers Raymond Rhee.

Southeastern Grocers said has donated over 18.6 million meals in the southeast U.S. This summer, $140,000 was donated to seven Feeding America food banks along with $100,000 to a program dedicated to providing meals to children 17 years old and younger.
