NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police say they are investigating after a 10-year-old boy was hit in the face by a bullet that was fired during New Year’s Eve celebrations and fell from the sky.

Fabian Rivera pointed at his wounded cheek and told WDSU-TV that falling bullets can kill people.

WWL-TV reports that Rivera was on a swing set in the backyard of a home in New Orleans when the bullet fell. His friend, 10-year-old Diana Lopez, says he was looking at the sky and listening to fireworks when he got off the swing with blood on him and began crying. The bullet went through his neck after hitting his cheek. Fabian was taken to a hospital, and is now recovering at home.
