BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Two former Louisiana State University (LSU) beach volleyball players are preparing for the 2023 Olympic Qualifiers.

The Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana has wished them luck.

I want to wish Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss the best of luck as they prepare for the 2023 Olympic Qualifiers and then hopefully on to the 2024 Paris Olympics. They are currently ranked #1 in the US on the AVP Tour and #3 for US international play.

Who are Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss?

Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss debuted their team, TKN Tandem Beach Volleyball, in the summer of 2020. “TKN” is a mix of their first names, Taryn and Kristen.

Kloth played beach volleyball at LSU from 2016 to 2021 and Nuss played LSU beach volleyball from 2019 to 2021.

Nuss was #13 at LSU and finished her super senior beach volleyball career with 136 victories. Kloth, from South Dakota, was #12 and was undefeated on Court 1 with Nuss.

TKN Tandem are the champions

Currently, Nuss and Kloth are ranked No. 1 after winning the Association of Volleyball Professionals 2022 Championship in Phoenix back in September. TKN Beach Volleyball qualified for the Phoenix championship after winning the AVP championship tournament in Chicago.

From the very beginning, the Louisiana Office of Tourism was their biggest sponsor.

Kloth and Nuss are known as the “Louisiana Girls”

It all started on a random Tuesday when Nungesser called Nuss and she so happened to pick up the phone.

“On this one Tuesday, I got a phone call from a random number. Luckily, I answered it,” Nuss said.

On the other end was Nungesser. He told Nuss he wanted to help them and that he believed in them.

“Since day one the Louisiana Office of Tourism has really just been our biggest supporters and have helped us so much,” Nuss said.

Kloth and Nuss wore caps that said the slogan “Feed Your Soul” at the AVP championship.

They also have a blog for all their adventures

Not only do they blog, but also vlog.

Kloth said that in between training and competing, they had a lot of pictures from an event on one of their travels.

“It started out by if you had to sum up this trip into three sentences what would it be,” Kloth said. “And then it moved to, okay, we’re going to make a detailed vlog for everybody to follow along.”

Kloth says Kristen came up with vlogs.

“Now we have blogs and vlogs for people to follow along,” Kloth said. “So, it’s just been a journey and honestly, for us and our families and whoever else wants to follow along.”

How will they qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics?

The 2024 Olympics are in Paris and will have 12 volleyball teams. The FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) is the international governing body for all forms of volleyball. Nuss and Kloth are ranked at No. 17 as of November 19.

Since France is the host, they automatically get one quota for men’s and women’s volleyball teams. The other 11 teams will compete in the three Olympic Qualification Tournaments in September and October of next year. The top two men’s and women’s teams will qualify for the 2024 Olympics.

The 2024 Paris Olympics begin on July 26 and go on until August 11.

Kloth explains the whole process at 20:20 in the video.

I think that we are very very fortunate and lucky to again just have this support from Louisiana, as a whole, just the entire state of Louisiana. We definitely feel the support and love even when we stay in Cape Town, Africa. We just know there are so many people back home that are watching and following along and really believe in us. That’s not something a lot of beach volleyball people can’t say.

Kristen Nuss

When we created the TKN, LLC and just kind of took off on our professional careers we wanted to spread the love of beach volleyball so even if that’s just finding other people that fall in love with beach volleyball and maybe start playing or maybe start supporting and watching, that is huge for us.

Taryn Kloth

Kloth and Nuss are off to Australia for their next tournament before preparing for their Olympics preparation journey in January.

On Dec. 10, TKN will host a beach volleyball clinic at Coconut Beach. Find more information here.
