BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Health reports a “record low” in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

In a COVID-19 update announced online, LDH says 620 new cases have been reported since April 22, which includes a backlog of 189 cases reported. The department says this data includes 69 reinfections and 38 hospitalizations. LDH also reports six additional COVID-19-related deaths since April 22.

LDH says reinfections are defined as a positive COIVD-19 test in a person with a previous positive test at least 90 days prior.

Of newly reported cases, the majority are people ages 30 to 39 (17%) and ages 70 and older (15%). Sixty-four percent of newly reported cases come from the Greater New Orleans region, according to LDH.
