WASHINGTON (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Health will be receiving millions for research into diabetes, heart disease, and stroke prevention, according to Senator Bill Cassidy.

Cassidy said $1,483,586 in funds will be coming from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“As a doctor, protecting those who are at particularly high risk is a priority,” said Cassidy. “This funding will allow Louisiana to do the research we need to improve health outcomes of our communities.”

According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death in Louisiana.
