BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association has created an annual award for sheriffs or deputies injured in the line of duty.

The creation of the award was inspired by Bob Buckley, the late Union Parish Sheriff, according to a news release. Buckley served as president of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association from 2012-2013.

Nominations from all 64 sheriff’s offices in the state can be submitted. The first nominations will be reviewed by a committee in March, according to a news release. Winners will be announced and honored at the association’s annual conference.
