Louisiana State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police launches an investigation into an alleged officer-involved shooting in Lafayette.

According to LSP, before 1 a.m. on July 9 troopers were requested by the Lafayette Police Department to investigate a shooting incident involving one of their officers.

An investigation by LSP detectives found that the officer was dispatched to an apartment complex on the 100 block of E. Martial Avenue “in reference to a suicidal subject.” A male individual with a handgun approached the officer before the officer fired his gun, state police detectives reported.

Authorities said the man sustained “non-life-threatening” injuries and was taken to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.

LSP said this incident remains an active investigation.
