Louisiana teen leads authorities on police chase

Louisiana News

LAPLACE, La. (BRPROUD) – A 13-year-old girl, along with four other teens, allegedly attempted to burglarize vehicles before initiating a police chase with St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office deputies.

On Wednesday, June 9 at around 3:30 a.m., authorities arrived to Riverlands subdivision after receiving reports of “young people” allegedly attempting to burglarize vehicles.

Authorities say officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspected vehicle when the driver, later identified as the 13-year-old, refused to stop. The driver ran several stop signs and nearly lost control of the vehicle before stopping.

According to deputies, the juveniles, ages 13, 15, and 16, were arrested for curfew violation and the 13-year-old driver was booked with aggravated flight from an officer by vehicle.

“Pulling on door handles has become a popular crime trend especially with citizens leaving firearms and other valuables in their unlocked vehicles,” said Sheriff Mike Tregre.

Sheriff Tregre advises residents to take precautions by locking their vehicles and removing valuable items.
