LAKE CHARLES, La. (BRPROUD) — A Louisiana State Police trooper was arrested on Oct. 13 in connection to a fatal crash in Texas.

The trooper, Patrick Bell, 45, of Merryville was off-duty due to being on workers’ compensation leave since 2017, according to a news release from LSP. He had been assigned to patrol at Troop D.

An investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) determined that on Aug. 29 Bell’s vehicle ran off Texas State Highway 63 before hitting and killing a pedestrian.

Toxicology sample results indicated that Bell was over the legal alcohol limit, according to Texas authorities.

He faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
