THIBODAUX, La. (BRPROUD) — A man and woman accused of the death of their 11-month-old child have been indicted by a grand jury.

According to Lafourche Parish District Attorney Kristine Russell, 27-year-old Jake Guidry and 21-year-old Kageionna Butler were indicted for second-degree murder on Jan. 7.

On September 28, 2021, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a home in the 600 block of Brule Guillot Road for a welfare check on a child. According to the sheriff’s office, Guidry told deputies that the child died after he had hit her “too hard.”

Deputies arrested Butler on October 10, 2021 in connection with the infant’s death.

Guidry and Butler have an arraignment scheduled for Jan. 25.
