St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office warns public of alligator sightings; What to do if you see one

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Do you know what to do if you see an alligator?

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) said although they have not seen an increase in calls regarding alligators in residential areas, yet warn the public on what to do in case of an alligator sighting.

In a social media post, deputies said an alligator was recently spotted at the Reserve boat launch, however, it safely returned to its habitat.

In case you see an alligator on your property, SJSO instructs that you back away slowly and call the sheriff’s office at 985-652-6338 or the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at 504-284-2023 (Monday-Friday) or 800-442-2511 on nights and weekends.
