BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Treasury received over $8 million in uncashed tax refunds from the state’s revenue department, according to State Treasurer John Schroder.

Schroder said this year’s amount is the largest-ever deposit, up from $5 million last year. He said this money is ready to be claimed in the Unclaimed Property Program.

“We send out claim checks weekly to some people totaling six figures, and the average claim is $900,” said Treasurer Schroder. “With more than $1 billion waiting to be claimed, you should really take a few minutes to check to see if your name is on this list.”

The state recently broke a record high in unclaimed property search and claim rates in a 24-hour period with 128,000 searches conducted and 5,500 claims filed.
