Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office investigates Thursday shooting

HAMMOND, La (BRPROUD) – Chief James Travis reports that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday, Aug. 5 on Baker Lane in Hammond. 

A caller stated they heard gunshots, and saw a male lying in the roadway unresponsive, according to the sheriff’s office.  

Deputies responded to Baker Lane a little after 3:30 p.m., Travis said. 

On the scene, deputies discovered the male victim, identified as 44-year-old Telra Johnson of Hammond, lying in the roadway with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.  Johnson was transported to the hospital and died of his injuries.

Several suspects have been identified, however, detectives are still looking for additional information related to the case.
