BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Walmart has selected two Louisiana brands and negotiating three more brands to feature in their stores during an open call event from June 28.

On June 28 and 29, Louisiana-based small businesses had to opportunity to showcase their product to Walmart executives and buyers during their annual open call event. The one-on-one setting gave business owners a chance to secure a deal from supplying their products locally or across the nation.

The two Louisiana businesses that were granted a deal were “Mah Melanin” and “Super Slick Slick Stuff”.

Mah Melanin is a certified business focused on including people of color. This mother-daughter duo, Ardean Miller-Marbley and Syreniti Marbley are from New Sarpy, Louisiana. Their featured product is their gift wrapping paper that will be available for purchase through Walmart and Sam’s Club. They are also negotiating for another one of their products on the market, their culture and pride-inspired backpack.

Super Slick Slick Stuff is a product created by a business based out of Pearl River, Louisiana, which has already been a partner with Walmart. Super Slick Slick Stuff was founded by Mark Alleman and is a clean, scented synthetic lubricant for metal moving parts. Alleman was able to get his product on the shelf in the automotive department in 900 Walmart stores.

“Participating in Walmart’s Open Call event has felt like the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Mah Melanin owner Ardean Miller-Marbley. “Walmart’s support and investment in our brand will open doors to new audiences, ensuring future successes for our company. We are ecstatic, energized and ready to ramp up operations to meet the demand of Walmart customers.”

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to stock Super Slick Slick Stuff on Walmart shelves,” said company owner Mark Alleman. “This is our second deal secured through Walmart’s Open Call pitching event and based on experience, I can say that Walmart has been a wonderful and supportive retail partner. They understand the multitude of logistics involved in getting products from manufacturing into the hands of consumers.”

The other Louisiana brands that are still negotiating with Walmart include Curl Stop, Simply Delicious Ranch Dressing, and Greek Girls Rice Pudding.
