Two suspects arrested in connection to catalytic converter thefts

OPELOUSAS, La. (BRPROUD) – Two suspects were arrested by local authorities in connection to catalytic converter theft.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said detectives were notified of a theft at an I-49 Service Road business on Dec. 22. The sheriff’s office said the theft victim told detectives that nine catalytic converters went missing from recreational vehicles at the location. He also told detectives that two saw blades were also found.

On June 28, Morgan City Police Department arrested two individuals in connection to local catalytic converter thefts. Morgan City police reached out to St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office about this case potentially being connected to previous thefts within the parish.

The suspects were identified by authorities as 41-year-old Lee Covington VI of Arnaudville and 31-year-old Brandy Gros of Arnaudville. The sheriff’s office said on July 2 Covington and Gros were arrested and transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail.

Covington and Gros each face nine counts of theft and are held on an $18,000 bond.
