BATON ROUGE, La. (BRProud) — Girls on the Run South Louisiana will host an eight week program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades, specifically tailored to deal with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Girls on the Run is here for girls at a time when they need it most,” said Executive Director Carly Fuller. “Girls are facing social isolation, stressors related to Covid-19 and reduced physical activity, which can negatively impact girls’ mental and physical behavior.”
The upcoming 8-week program curriculum is based on the research of social-emotional learning, according to Fuller. Attendees can expect to learn everyday life skills while also meeting new people and working with volunteer coaches.
For 2020, parents and guardians may register their girl for a modified in-person team, to ensure health and safety from the coronavirus. For the first time in the program’s history, parents may also opt for a fully virtual experience. “This isn’t your average Zoom,” said Fuller, “girls will be engaging and active throughout the session. Regardless of the program chosen, girls meet twice a week for eight weeks.
Registration is now open. Fees include a ‘pay what you can’ option.
