Savvy Southerner: Valentine’s Day on a Budget

Morning Show

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Hopefully you show your loved one how much you care everyday, but Valentine’s Day is the chance to go the extra mile. In your Savvy Southerner this week, I show you how to take advantage of what the Capital City has to offer without putting a dent in your pocket book.

The average adult in a relationship will shell out $196 for Valentine’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation. If you consider the deals national and local businesses are offering in the Red Stick, it’s possible to have a romantic night out for about $50. Date night includes flowers, a three course dinner and a romantic post-dinner outing.

Whole Foods Market in Towne Center has two dozen roses starting at $19.99. You will need to be an Amazon Prime member to snag the deal. If you do not have a Prime account, you can always sign up for a free 30-day trial membership online. The specially priced rose bunch is valid from Feb. 7 until close of business on Feb. 14, or until supplies last.

A bouquet of flowers goes hand-in-hand with a bouquet of breadsticks. Olive Garden is, once again, offering up their special Valentine’s Day themed dinner. It includes a three course meal with a bouquet of breadsticks and an after-dinner mint box with a surprise love poem inside. The deal is $34.99.

California Pizza Kitchen and Chili’s have similar deals.

People say the art of love is who you spend it with, so consider stepping out to the LSU Museum of Art. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Friday night, admission is free.
