Southern Lab hosts crawfish boil fundraiser to help support new e-sports team

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Tickets are now on sale for Southern Lab school’s latest fundraiser, intended to support the Esports team. Electronic sports is growing in popularity across the country and the 2019-20 school year marks the first year for Southern Lab’s team.

The group is lead by teacher Christopher Turner, who said the fundraiser will help renovate the Mac Lab to the Esports and Media Lab. The lab will be used for student competitions, media and broadcast training and STEM related curriculum.

Southern Lab’s Esports team is already experiencing a successful year, even though the program is in its infancy. On March 13, 8th grader Troy Murphy will compete in the semi-finals round of the national competition for the chance to ultimately win a $500 scholarship.

People who are interested in supporting the cause can purchase a tickets to the ‘SU Lab Crawfish Boil’ online at https://cutt.ly/3r41tUE. Only pre-sale tickets will be honored and money will not be accepted the day of the event.

The fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 12. Tickets for the event are $21.00 each and include 4 lbs. of boiled crawfish, two potatoes and a half-ear of corn. Between noon and 5 p.m., people may redeem their tickets at Southern University Lab School, 129 Swan Ave.

The deadline to purchase tickets is noon today (3/11).
