PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WDSU) — One person is dead and another was rescued after an 18-wheeler drove of the Pascagoula Bridge in Mississippi on Tuesday morning, according to WXXV in Biloxi.
According to WXXV’s report, there were two people inside of the 18-wheeler.
First responders were able to rescue the passenger from the water and transport them to a local hospital, but the body of the driver was recovered by dive teams around 8 a.m.
The accident happened around 4 a.m. when the 18-wheeler, that was carrying pizza equipment, broke through the side of the bridge and landed in the river, according to the report.
The accident scene on the bridge caused delays on I-10 westbound near Exit 68.
According to WXXV, traffic delays from the accident stretched across the Pascagoula River Bridge, westward past the intersection of I-10 and Highway 63.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol says both lanes are now open for travel.
