TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WDSU) — One person is dead and several were injured after the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said multiple gunmen opened fire on a crowd during a trail ride event Saturday.

According to the sheriff, the shooting happened Saturday night around 7:30 p.m. on Vernon Town Road.

The sheriff said multiple gunmen opened fire on a large crowd during a trail ride event.

One person was fatally shot and several wounded as a result of the incident, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information regarding this tragic event to come forward with information. Det. Matt Dean is the lead investigator.
