A 13-year-old girl gave birth Sunday morning and dropped the baby off at a neighbor’s doorstep on Chemin drive in Baker.
According to Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn, the girl and her parents said they were unaware she was pregnant. Authorities said she delivered the baby alone in her room and cleaned the infant before dropping it off.
“We looked in every dumpster, walked by every house, duplex and found a little blood and was able to locate the mother of the child,” said Chief Dunn.
The baby was later taken to a local hospital. At this time, the child is in good condition.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) recently launched an online mapping tool to help the public locate facilities where they can voluntarily drop off newborns they are unable to care for.
