BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Two weeks ago, 20-year-old Erion Franklin was found shot to death near O’Neal Ln.
The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of Destin Cade Brogan, 18, of Baton Rouge, on Thursday, September 29.
The 18-year-old was caught on Mead Rd.
“Brogan admitted to shooting Franklin during a narcotics transaction and then stealing Franklin’s handgun which was located when Brogan was arrested,” according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.
The affidavit states that the Baton Rouge man confessed to meeting with Franklin in order to purchase marijuana.
Brogon claims that Franklin tried to rob him and that is when he returned fire.
After shooting Franklin, Brogon said “he took the victim’s Glock 40.” Brogon claimed that the gun which was seized upon his arrest was “the same handgun he took from the victim after shooting him,” according to the affidavit.
This all started a little before 6:30 a.m. on September 15, when deputies were called to the scene of a reported shooting in the 3400 block of Yorkfield Dr.
Franklin was found at this location on a patio with what appeared to be “a gunshot wound to the head,” according to the affidavit.
A detective with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office found these items either on Franklin or near his body:
- Two large clear plastic bags with suspected marijuana
- Two digital scales
- 40 caliber round of ammunition
Brogan remains in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charges listed below:
- First Degree Murder
- Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms
- Armed Robbery
Witness testimony and a tip from Crime Stoppers helped lead to the arrest of Brogan.
The affidavit states that statements made by Brogan “do not match the evidence located and seized from the scene of the homicide.”
Bond has not been set for Destin Cade Brogan.
