2020 Metro Bayou Classic Scholarship recipients announced


BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Ten local students received this year’s Metro Bayou Classic Scholarship, a scholarship reserved for local high school seniors who plan to attend Grambling State University or Southern University.

The mission of the scholarship is upheld by local council members, and this year, two students from each involved councilperson’s district received the scholarship.

The 2020 recipients from those districts are as follows:

Councilwoman Donna Collins-Lewis of District 6

  • Zelinda Harleaux from Belaire Magnet High School
  • Bre’onca Jones from Belaire Magnet High School

Councilwoman Chauna Banks of District 2

  • Bryce Hudson from Scotlandville Magnet High School
  • Zion Ross from Lee Magnet High School

Councilwoman Erika L. Green of District 5

  • Taylor Randall from The Brighton School
  • Rakia Adams from Cristo Rey High School 

Councilman LaMont Cole of District 7

  • Leah Monet Morgan from Istrouma High School
  • Ja’Shayla McPipe from Madison Prep Academy

Councilwoman Tara Wicker of District 10

  • Ty’Liya Pitts from Southern Lab
  • Rayegan Abdullah from Southern Lab
