BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The 4th annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival is a free, family-friendly three day event beginning with a pre-party and two days of live music, food, arts and competitions.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, June 24 at Henry Turner Jr.s’ Listening Room, a Greens, Beans and Chicken Wings Pre-Party. The evenings’ entertainment includes performances by Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, the Listening Room All-Stars that include Larry ‘LZ’ Dillon, Kelton ‘Nspire’ Harper, Wynda Paul, Melerbee, Ras Wayne Vicks and comedian Eddie “Cool” Deemer. Special guests are Challa Sabre, Katrina, Doug Brousseau and the River City All Stars and R&B singer Lady Bain from Houston. DJ is Teddy ‘Lloyd’ Johnson of Teddy’s Juke Joint.
Tickets for the pre-party are $25 and include a buffet and soft drink.
On Saturday, June 26, the festivities are from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Riverfront Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge, 300 River Road South. The weekend lineup features gospel, contemporary Christian, soul, blues, R&B and reggae artists.

The festival closes out with a performance from Eric G Soul Spectrum Band. In addition to Teddy Johnson and Whitney Vann, special guest co-host is Christian radio host Kerwin Fealing of WTQT, 106.1.

Festival attendance is free, however, VIP packages are available. VIP tickets are $100 and include access to VIP areas, two festival t-shirts, four food and drink tickets, photo ops with entertainment, and more.
Additionally, there will be a Royal Court with special guests to include the Kings and Queens of Mr. Black Louisiana and Miss Black Empowerment.
The competition portion of the Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival begins with awarding the Pioneer Award for outstanding contributions to the soul food industry and the Soul Food Cooking Competition winners. The winners for Entrees and Side Dishes will be announced at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and the winners for Appetizers, Desserts and Drinks will be announced Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to be awarded first, second and third place.
The contest is open to entrants until Friday, June 18.
