BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The 72nd Avenue Sidewalks Project became a reality on Tuesday morning.

Rev. Anthony Patterson of King Solomon Baptist Church joined Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and MOVEBR at a groundbreaking ceremony.

The mayor’s office said the project “will build new sidewalks on 72nd Avenue.”

The building process will occur in two parts:

  • Phase 1: Designed by Professional Engineering Consultants and will be built by Gulf States Services, LLC. Scheduled completion date is by January 29, 2021.
  • Phase 2: After Phase 1 is done, sidewalks will be built along 72nd Avenue from I-110 to Plank Road.

“This project brings a safer, healthier and better quality of life for the residents, churches and businesses along 72nd Avenue,” said Mayor Broome. “It provides safe access to the BREC Scotlandville Parkway and the ExxonMobil YMCA, which are great assets to this neighborhood.”

The ceremony took place at the King Solomon Baptist Church which is located at 2650 72nd Ave.
