8 planes flipped by strong winds, plane owner blames company for not tying them down

News

“I love just being up in the air, it’s nice to just get in the plane and go.”

Darrin Smith said, flying is fun but now his hobby is on hold.

“Today there was a big storm come through and it flipped over 8 planes on the airport here, and ours being one of them.”

Video recorded from inside one of the hangers shows the intensity of the weather. Smith said, in the past, the planes had always been tied down, something that could have prevented them from flipping.

“We get storms all the time and this is one of the reasons here. If I would’ve known it wasn’t tied down, I would’ve moved it somewhere to tie it down but they just took it upon themselves to move all the places over here without tying them down” said Smith.

Picking up pieces from his very first plane. Smith said, all that’s left are the memories.

“This is pretty much totaled, we’re going to have to get a new plane. I mean this is almost beyond repairs as far as cost wise.”

Smith said nobody notified him that his plan had flipped, telling me now, he simply wants something done so he can fly again.

“What’s the next course of action they plan on taking, I just want my plane fixed.”
