It was the LSU Tigers celebrating on the field at Tiger Stadium the day LSU pulled off its largest comeback against an SEC opponent inside their home venue in program history, but it was the other Tiger team who might have benefited the most from that outcome.
While Auburn players called that result the “absolute low point” in their college football careers, it also spurred a change for the team that eventually ended up in the SEC Championship Game.
The LSU-Auburn rivalry has taken its fair share of dramatic turns.
The two programs also met in what would eventually be Les Miles’ last game at LSU, two season ago.
And, fans will never forget the “earthquake game” of 1988, where LSU outdueled Auburn, 7-6, and subsequently triggered tremors on a local seismograph.
