Aerial spray taking place in BR on Thursday after discovery of mosquitoes with West Nile virus

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Anyone who lives in the area of O’Neal Ln. and Bonham Ave. should expect to see an airplane flying over on Thursday night.

EBR Parish Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control confirms mosquitoes have been collected “that tested positive for West Nile virus.”

On two separate dates in two separate locations, mosquitoes were found to have the West Nile Virus.

EBR Parish Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control provided details about those positive tests below:

  • Collection date: 10/8/20
  • Locations: Foster Dr. and Hollywood St. and Airline Hwy & Winbourne Ave.
  • (190 mosquitoes caught in traps)
  • Collection date: 10/13/20
  • Locations: Drusilla Ln. south of Jefferson Hwy and O’Neal Lane (dead end of Bonham Ave.)
  • (31 mosquitoes caught in traps)

O’Neal Ln. is scheduled to be treated on Thursday night.

EBR Parish Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control also says, “weather permitting, we will be conducting an aerial spray mission tonight over Central and the eastern part of the parish starting at 6:45PM. This is in response to both large numbers of floodwater mosquitoes as well as mosquito samples testing positive for West Nile virus.”
