APSO: Suspects in early morning shooting arrested after fleeing from deputies

GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – Two men are behind bars after leading deputies on a chase.

30-year-old Humberto Gonzalez and 30-year-old Kody Hughes were apprehended around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3.

The chase was both in a car and on foot.

“When deputies arrived on scene, they heard several more shots fired from a vehicle that fled the scene towards Highway 931,” according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The car chase ended when the vehicle crashed at an intersection.

Gonzalez and Hughes immediately left the scene on foot.

Gonzalez was captured first “near Highway 431 and Highway 621 where he admitted to driving the vehicle and shooting a handgun for unknown reasons.”

APSO says deputies found Hughes on Highway 431 and the 30-year-old was arrested there.

Two guns were confiscated by deputies.

Gonzales is facing these charges:

  • Illegal use of a firearm
  • Resisting an officer
  • Failing to stop at stop signs
  • Reckless operation

Hughes on the other hand is charged with:

  • Illegal use of a firearm
  • Resisting an officer

Both are currently in the Ascension Parish Jail and each is being held on $25,000 bond.
