BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Many subjects were covered at the East Baton Rouge School Board on Thursday night.

During the hours-long meeting, the subject of arming school resource officers was voted on by the school board.

The job description is School Resource Officer (Armed) and students will see them on campus after the motion passed with a vote of 6-1. Officers will be allowed to carry guns on campus.

The vote came after an hour-long discussion involving the public and school board members.

Impassioned pleas were made on both sides of this issue.

You can watch the entire discussion on this matter in the attached video from 3:55:00 to 5:01:00.

The first day of school for students in East Baton Rouge Parish is Monday, Aug. 8.

This decision comes after a mass shooting at a Texas school took the lives of 21 people, including 19 children.
