BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Four individuals, including a teenager, have been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting that happened at IHOP on Siegen Lane on May 25.
Officials arrested Tyrese Keller, Melvin Brooks Jr., and Shermane Molden Thursday night on principles of First Degree Murder charges. The fourth suspect that was arrested is a 17-year-old unidentified juvenile who is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Simple Arson, Obstruction of Justice, and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things.
EBRSO is still seeking a potential fifth suspect in this deadly shooting, Travell Jarrell. Jarrell is wanted for Attempted First Degree Murder, Simple Arson, Obstruction of Justice, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. Anyone with information is asked to call law enforcement immediately.
According to arrest documents, on the morning of May 25, the four suspects traveled from Zachary to the IHOP on Siegen in Molden’s vehicle. Molden owned the silver Hyundai Elantra. When they arrived at the IHOP, Molden and Jarrell went inside of the restaurant briefly and then left without ordering food. They left and picked up another suspect from an apartment complex.
When they arrived at the apartment complex, Jarrell and the other suspect got into another car, a blue Toyota Matrix that was parked in the parking lot of the complex and headed back to the IHOP.
Surveillance shows the Toyota Matrix parked at the rear of the IHOP near the employees break area. When one of the employees exited the restaurant from the back, the vehicle relocated to the driveway behind the business, next to the break area.
When the vehicle came to a stop, two suspects begin firing shots at the victims and fled the scene.
While officials were investigating the scene at IHOP, they received a call about a matching description of the car used to flee the scene of the shooting on fire in the 5400 block of Hidden Ridge Lane, approximately 2.7 miles from the crime scene. Two male suspects were scene running on foot from the vehicle. Later officials learned that the vehicle on fire was reported stolen with the Denham Springs Police Department.
Arson Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set and ruled it as arson.
EBRSO identified the victim in the shooting as 31-year-old Courtney Whitfield. A second victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
