PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BrProud) — Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment, School Superintendent David Alexander and other community officials gathered Thursday to cut the ribbon on an extended carpool lane at Galvez Primary School.
“This carpool lane may seem like a small thing, but I see it as the beginning of a new openness, a new spirit of cooperation,” said Cointment, “where all Parish agencies join forces to make Ascension Parish a better place to be.”
The carpool lane was made possible by a cooperative endeavor agreement adopted by the Council and the School Board. The extension will relieve traffic congestion on Henderson Bayou Road and provide a safe place for parents to pick up their children from school. Before the carpool lane, cars would back up on to Henderson Bayou Road every day at the end of school, creating potentially unsafe conditions.
According to Ascension Parish, Galvez Primary School provided the land and all materials, while the parish provided equipment and manpower to build the 500 foot extension.
“We are grateful for this partnership with Ascension Parish that enhances our parent drop off and pick up lines at Galvez Primary,” said Superintendent David Alexander. “When our local government and school system support each other, the entire community benefits.”
