GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — As girls across the nation are encouraged to dream big and hone their leadership skills, a unique program designed to encourage girls is on its way to Ascension Parish.

As of January, a brand-new Girl Scouts DreamLab is under construction in Gonzales. This innovative activity center will be one of the first in the U.S.

In the DreamLab, Girl Scouts will learn to develop new skills and showcase their talents. The Gonzales location will be equipped to host STEM-related ventures, as well as video and podcast productions.

It also will serve as a one-stop shop for participants.

A Girl Scouts representative explained to BRProud, saying, “Our Council Shop will be housed here, and it will be an exclusive Girl Scout space housed in an easy-to-access, open-to-the-public facility. In addition to the Council Shop, Girl Scouts will be able to participate in immersive STEM-related activities, show off their skills in a video and podcast studio, gather around a faux indoor campfire and utilize outdoor skills to practice camping competency. In addition to the DreamLab, we also have our Mobile Shop, which also allows Girl Scouts and adult volunteers to get the uniform pieces and resources they need all around the 23-parish service area.”

The DreamLab is made possible by a grant pilot program, which will also fund upgrades and renovations to Camp Marydale and Camp Covington.

Construction of the DreamLab is expected to reach completion in the spring.
