ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Senior citizens will have the opportunity to brush off their dancing shoes and show off their best moves at an upcoming event hosted by the Ascension Parish government.

Locals are invited to enjoy great food, live music, and dancing at the Friday, October 21 Garney Gautreau Senior Sock Hop.

After a delicious lunch is served at 11 a.m., guests will take to the dance floor as Mike Broussard & Nite Train perform songs of various genres. The local band specializes in Swamp Pop, R&B, Old Soul, country, and old rock.

Interested senior citizens are welcomed to the luncheon and dance, which will be held at The Ascension Gym (9039 South St. Landry Ave. Gonzales, LA 70737).

The Garney Gautreau Senior Sock Hop originated in 2008 as an opportunity for locals to gather with neighbors and enjoy the sorts of recreational activities Louisiana is known for, namely, good food, upbeat music, and dancing.

During this month’s sock hop, the Jambalaya Festival Association will provide lunch and the Ascension Parish Government will sponsor the entire event.

Anyone interested in sponsoring or volunteering with this event and others like it can contact Ascension Parish’s Assistant Director of Recreation, Michelle Templet at (225) 450-1081.
