BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A member of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a traffic accident on Saturday, November 12.

A vehicle driven by Orlando Velazquez, 46, of Geismar, crashed at E Groner Ave. and Upton Dr.

The responding deputy made contact with Velazquez and his sister.

The deputy noted that Velazquez “appeared to be visually impaired and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her body and breath,” according to the affidavit.

Velazquez did not do well on a standardized field sobriety test.

The affidavit states that the Ascension Parish man claimed that he drank 2 or 3 beers before getting behind the wheel.

Velazquez was then arrested and charged with Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated.

The 46-year-old was given a chemical breath test at Louisiana State Police Troop A headquarters.

The result of that test produced a BAC of 0.165%.

Velazquez was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The Ascension Parish man remains behind bars on a $1,500 bond.
