Ascension Parish residents brace for more rain after flooding

GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD)– Heavy rains lead to flooding across many areas of Ascension Parish on Monday.

“This morning it was pretty rough, We had a good bit of rain in a short amount of time and it caused the bayous and ditches to swell up and the streets got backed up,” Prairieville Resident Kenny Foster said.

Foster’s subdivision Quail Creek flooded Monday morning. Many neighbors said the water was up to their flower beds.

Other areas with high water included Burnside Ave in Gonzales, Highway 621 and Highway 42.

Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment activated the Marvin Braud and Sorrento pumping stations to help with drainage. Cointment is urging Ascension residents in flood prone areas to take precaution.

Prairieville Fire Department Assistant Chief Pat Carpenter said rescue vehicles and crews are ready to go if they are needed this week.

Cointment said as soon as Tropical Storm Cristobal passed his staff immediately began refilling all sea cans at all locations.
