Ascension Parish students heading back to the classroom

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — It is now a waiting game to determine when all schools will have power, but the Ascension Parish School Board says they are moving forward with the reopening of schools in their parish.

Last Monday, the school board announced the closure ahead of Hurricane Ida. With many students and staff evacuating and widespread power outages, schools remained closed for the rest of the week.

Starting Tuesday, however, all employees are expected to return to work in person. Some schools and school board offices are still without power, so an alternate location will be provided for those staff members ahead of Tuesday.

As of Monday morning, APSB is aiming to have students back in the classroom on Wednesday, but they say they cannot be sure at this time if they will reach their target.

It is unknown at this time how students will make up for missed days, but you can find the latest information on the school board website.
