GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – As recovery from Hurricane Ida continues in Ascension Parish, the Ascension Parish Government is trying to make it easier for reconstruction to take place.

For anyone in the parish who is going through reconstruction after the storm, you will not have to get any permits or pay permit fees.

That applies to these types of repair work on your home:

  • Replacing roof shingles
  • Replacing roof decking
  • Replacing roof rafters
  • Repairing minor wall damage

“We want people to get back to their normal lives in their homes as quickly as possible,” said
Parish President Clint Cointment. “Waiving these permits and fees will make the process
easier.”

There is a threshold for what can be considered under this edict.

According to President Cointment, “permits and inspections will still be required for more
complex work, such as replacing electrical wiring, new electrical wiring, new electrical panels,
change out of AC units, and any structural repairs.”

You can view the letter which spells out details about this decision below:

If you are not sure about whether you meet the criteria to avoid permits and feeds, call the Building
Department at 225-450-1002.
