Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa announced today four locations with loose sand and bags are open for Ascension Parish residents.
Residents are urged to bring their own shovels, officials said. “This is a precautionary measure,” said Rick Webre, director with Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
Officials said this event is not expected to increase the current Mississippi River levels for Ascension Parish.
The locations are:
Butch Gore Memorial Park 14550 Harry Savoy Road, St. Amant, La.
Stevens Park 4323 Cannon Road, Gonzales, La.
Jackie Robinson Memorial Park 35638 Coco Road, Geismar, La.
Galvez-Lake Fire Department 16288 Joe Sevario Road, Galvez
Parish Department of Public Works and East Ascension Drainage Department personnel have been briefed and are on standby, while parish waterways are being monitored, said parish officials.
Officials said Marvin Braud and Sorrento pump stations are manned, while the Henderson Bayou Pumping Station is being monitored. OHSEP has initiated an online map to show citizens exactly where sand bag locations are located, as well as other preparedness and response measures that may occur due to Potential Tropical Storm Barry.
