BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Authorities in Lafourche Parish have apprehended two juveniles, ages 15 and 17, who escaped from the Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe this week.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office learned that the juveniles who escaped from the north Louisiana detention center had possibly made their way to Lafourche Parish after allegedly stealing a vehicle in the Alexandria area.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice assisted LPSO in tracking the stolen vehicle, which they located at a store alongside La. Highway 316 in Gray.

Authorities said the juveniles tried fleeing on foot upon seeing law enforcement outside the store. Both were quickly apprehended and are now in the custody of the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice, according to LPSO.

One of the boys had a handgun at the time he was caught, according to LPSO.
