LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – According to one source, between 2016 to 2020, 1,390 drivers were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes over the 4th of July holiday period.

The research also indicates that thirty-nine percent (542) of the drivers killed were alcohol-impaired (with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher), and more than half (51%) were between the ages of 21-34.

This 4th of July holiday, authorities in south Louisiana are not taking any chances.

Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and its First Responder partners announced over the weekend that they are actively patrolling roadways to ensure safety during the holiday.

Similar announcements were made by law enforcement agencies in Ascension Parish and Baton Rouge.

Police and deputies are encouraging holiday celebrants to plan ahead and coordinate with a designated driver.
