Baker man stopped for speeding, Central PD discovers felon in possession of a firearm and bag of marijuana

CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) – In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 20, the Central Police Department performed a traffic stop.

Around 1:30 a.m., a vehicle was spotted going 36 mph over the speed limit.

A traffic stop took place at Magnolia Bridge Rd. and Greenwell Springs Rd.

According to the Central Police Department, “The driver was identified as Leandre Torrel Smith Jr, 21 years of age of Baker, La.”

The items below were discovered during the traffic stop.

Smith Jr., was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and is facing these charges:

  • Speeding 81/45
  • Reckless Operation
  • Driving Under Suspension
  • Possession of 127 grams of Marijuana
  • Firearm with Drugs
  • Felon in possession of a Firearm

Leandre Torrel Smith Jr., was subsequently released from prison on $5,300 bond.
