BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Some residents in Louisiana have been recieving calls from people who say they’re with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), but are actually scammers, authorities say.

BRPD issued a ‘scam alert’ warning Thursday, October 13, stating that some locals have been targeted by criminals who “are using BRPD phone numbers and using BRPD officer names in an attempt to have victims send them money to stop the issuing of an arrest warrant.”

The police department says it’s in the process of investigating these calls.

Anyone with information related to this scam should contact BRPD at (225) 389-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
