BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – 2020 has been an interesting year.

The coronavirus is still an issue and the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season started on May 16.

So how are local entities preparing for a hurricane during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The command center at Baton Rouge General is still open and making plans for what could be an active hurricane season.

Baton Rouge General says, “for most businesses and homes, hurricane season means storm shutters and generators. But for a hospital, storm prep includes evacuation plans, staffing plans and sleep rooms – and those come with extra safety measures this year.”

These are some of the precautions that the hospital is taking during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Socially distancing staff in sleep rooms
  • Careful evaluation of evacuation procedures
  • Staffing plans
  • Monitoring of PPE stock

Baton Rouge General has 20 clinics and two campuses spread out throughout the area.
