Baton Rouge home belonging to family of seven catches fire

A house on 69th Avenue in Baton Rouge caught on fire Monday while the family of seven that dwells there was not home.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, but the home received heavy damage, and a nearby vacant duplex received $15,000 in damages, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived to find flames going through the roof of the house. The fire extended to the house’s carport, catching one vehicle on fire.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family, according to BRFD.
