BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A 28-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested Tuesday, November 29 and accused of attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend.
According to an affidavit completed by a detective with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO), the woman he allegedly attacked is also the mother of their infant child.
The affidavit says the incident that led to the alleged attack occurred on or about November 15 when Jerome Jackson went to his ex’s home to retrieve his personal items.
According to the official report, Jackson’s former partner “exited the residence and threw the accused (Jackson’s) items onto the ground.”
EBRSO says this made Jackson angry and he began to choke the woman, which led to a fight.
According to the affidavit, she grabbed a nearby can of paint and threw it at Jackson, which incited him to retaliate by producing a black, semi-automatic handgun and firing two rounds at her.
EBRSO says the woman was not injured by the gunfire.
The report adds that detectives later learned Jackson had a prior drug-related arrest and charge, which made it illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm.
Jackson was subsequently arrested on three charges:
- possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies
- attempted second-degree murder
- simple criminal damage to property
Officials say he was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
