BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – When a Baton Rouge woman wrote a $110 check to pay a bill and put it in the mail, she expected the funds to be delivered and her bill paid without any problems.
But according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO), a man stole her check, changed the amount, and made it payable to himself.
In an official document, EBRSO identifies the man as 47-year-old Jalil Finch and says Finch changed the amount of the check to $589.
According to EBRSO detectives, video surveillance from an ATM shows Finch depositing the stolen check.
Authorities also indicate this may not be the only case of forgery/fraud Finch is tied to.
In a separate affidavit, detectives say Finch did not work alone, but partnered with a 39-year-old woman named Sherree Wooldridge to carry out acts of bank fraud.
Finch was apprehended Wednesday, September 21 and put behind bars in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, his charges include theft, bank fraud, and forgery.
Wooldridge was also arrested and charged with bank fraud.
