BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Around 2 a.m., a member of law enforcement initiated a traffic stop early Saturday morning after seeing a Honda Accord with no working headlights or tail lights.

Jermiah Jones, 25, of Baton Rouge, was a passenger in the vehicle when the traffic stop took place on St. Ferdinand St.

After approaching the Honda Accord, the responding law enforcement officer “smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” according to the affidavit.

At some point during the traffic stop, Jones was questioned by the law enforcement officer.

The affidavit states that Jones “admitted to possessing marijuana in his backpack.”

A search of the backpack and vehicle also uncovered the items listed below:

  • Two sandwich bags of containing around 27 grams of “green vegetable matter”
  • Small plastic bag of crushed pills later determined to be ecstasy
  • Digital scale
  • Smith and Wesson revolver

The Baton Rouge man was arrested and charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Illegal Carrying of Weapons (with CDS)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Penalty For Distribution Or Possession With Intent To Distribute Narcotic Drugs Listed In Schedule I – Marijuana
  • Penalty For Distribution Or Possession With Intent To Distribute Narcotic Drugs Listed In Schedule I – Ecstasy

Jones remains behind bars in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and no bond has been set at this time.
