BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – 20-year-old Devonte Long was shot and killed on the day after Christmas.
The shooting took place on McClelland Dr. and Long was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe that a verbal alteration proceeded the shooting.
An investigation ensued and an arrest was made 17 days after the deadly shooting.
Gevartise Armstead, 27, of Baton Rouge, was arrested on Wednesday, January 12.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, “Investigators believe that ARMSTEAD is connected in the death of DEVONTE LONG that occurred on December 26.”
Armstead is currently in the EBR Parish Prison facing one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force assisted the Baton Rouge Police Department during this investigation.
