BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Michael Calvin Pou, 35, of Baton Rouge, called the Baton Rouge Police Department on Saturday, April 16, and ended up behind bars on the same day.

It all started when officers were called to the 10000 block of Cletus Dr.

Officers found a person had been shot in the back and that person was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the affidavit, the victim said that “he was shot in the parking lot area of 2564 N. Sherwood Forest Blvd.”

The affidavit states a search of the apparent shooting scene did uncover “multiple spent shell casings.”

Pou called ‘BRPD Dispatch advising that someone stole his vehicle from the same parking lot of the shooting incident,” according to the affidavit.

An investigation ensued that centered around the location on N. Sherwood Forest Blvd.

Pou evidently did not take the key out of his vehicle.

That is when an unidentified person entered the running vehicle and attempted to leave the area.

According to the affidavit, Pou “is observed on video surveillance footage producing a firearm and shooting multiple times at his stolen vehicle as it exits the parking lot.”

The vehicle was riddled with bullets and the alleged car thief was shot in the back.

Pou was located inside a different vehicle with a semiautomatic firearm.

The 35-year-old was arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Aggravated Second Degree Battery
  • One count of Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities

Pou was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Saturday, April 16, and released on the following day.
